Some love stories begin with sparks and surprises. Kayla and JT’s began with books. As a second-grade teacher and the founder of a literacy nonprofit, their paths crossed through a shared passion for education, storytelling, and making a difference. From their very first conversation, there was something special.
“Books and purpose brought us together,” Kayla shared. “Our connection was rooted in something bigger than us, and that’s what made it feel so meaningful.”
A Wedding Vision That Naturally Evolved
When Kayla first imagined her wedding day, she pictured a celebration that blended timeless elegance with bold, modern flair. As planning moved forward, though, her vision gently shifted toward something a bit more classic. The final result was a day that felt heartfelt, beautiful, and deeply personal.
“It wasn’t exactly what I initially pictured,” Kayla said, “but there were so many moments that felt like us. That’s what really matters.”
With soft neutral tones, timeless textures, and sentimental touches throughout, the day reflected the couple’s love story in a way that was both romantic and true.
Choosing a Planning Team that Felt Like a Perfect Fit
From the start, Kayla and JT knew that choosing the right team of vendors would make all the difference. More than just talent, they were looking for people who genuinely connected and worked well together to create something unforgettable.
“Compatibility and collaboration were at the top of our list,” Kayla explained.
That’s how they found B & R Events. After researching online and reading about Sam’s experience, Kayla and JT felt confident and excited to move forward. They booked the Grace full planning package, and it quickly became clear that they were in excellent hands.
“Sam was incredibly committed from day one. She helped us navigate some of the biggest decisions, like choosing our venue, and brought so much peace of mind throughout the process,” Kayla said. “She even had little extras like photo frames we could use, which was such a thoughtful touch.”
Having Sam and her team present on the wedding day meant that every detail was handled, every timeline stayed on track, and Kayla and JT were free to simply soak it all in.
A Theme Inspired by Timeless Romance
To create a design that felt both stylish and true to her, Kayla spent time gathering inspiration. She began to notice a pattern in what she loved: soft color palettes, clean details, and timeless, romantic elements that would never go out of style.
“I tried to incorporate little personal touches that would make it feel unique to us,” she said.
The result was a day full of gentle beauty and heartfelt moments, designed with intention and filled with love.
Planning Challenges and Lessons Learned
Like many couples, Kayla and JT discovered that the hardest part of planning was figuring out what to do first. Some decisions had a domino effect on others, and it took time to understand the right sequence.
“Staying organized helped so much,” Kayla shared. “I also learned that even with a plan, flexibility is key.”
One of her biggest takeaways was the importance of clarity and communication. “In the beginning, I expected my vendors to help build the vision, but I realized I needed to figure that out first. It’s hard for anyone to bring something to life if you’re still discovering it yourself. And I wish I had been more vocal instead of trying to avoid seeming difficult. Being honest about your preferences is actually really helpful to everyone involved.”
Favorite Moments to Cherish Forever
When asked about her favorite moment of the day, Kayla lights up.
“The tambourine competition,” she said, laughing. “It was so spontaneous and fun. It brought everyone together in the most joyful way.”
And just when they thought the energy couldn’t go any higher, one of the band members surprised everyone by stepping onto the dance floor with a saxophone. The crowd went wild, and the entire reception lit up with excitement.
It was the perfect blend of elegance and pure, playful joy.
The Moment That Took Her Breath Away
Nothing could quite compare to the moment Kayla walked down the aisle.
“I felt overwhelmed in the best way. It was a wave of emotions; nerves, excitement, gratitude. Seeing JT at the end of the aisle brought everything into focus. That moment made everything feel real.”
A Vendor Dream Team
Kayla and JT’s wedding came to life with the help of a wonderful team of vendors:
Venue: Westin Poinsett Hotel
Florals: Inn Season
Cake: Strossner’s Bakery
Band: The Sound Committee
Hair and Makeup: Cotton Rouge
Rentals: Upstate Event Services
Photography: Olivia Griffin Photography
Videography: Moments Visuals
Advice for Future Brides
Kayla’s biggest advice to other brides is to take the time upfront to create a clear vision.
“Before you book anything, get clear on what you want your day to look and feel like. That vision will guide you and help you stay grounded throughout the process.”
She also encourages brides not to shy away from speaking up. “Being direct doesn’t make you difficult. It actually helps your team support you better.”
Three Things Kayla and JT Are Most Grateful For
When reflecting on the day, Kayla and JT are especially thankful for three things:
The heartfelt and hilarious toasts from Kayla’s sisters and JT’s best man David.
The overwhelming love and support from friends and family.
And yes, the late-night chicken fingers.
Love, Laughter, and a Lifetime Ahead
Planning a wedding can be a big test of patience and teamwork, but for Kayla and JT, it only made their bond stronger.
“It reminded us how well we balance each other,” Kayla said. “Planning something like this helped us grow as a team and confirmed that we can handle challenges with patience, humor, and love.”
It was a day filled with joy, tradition, laughter, and a whole lot of heart. A day Kayla and JT, and everyone lucky enough to be there, will never forget.
